Rodpack composite material technology in wind power blades

Manufacturer of wind-driven generator Senvion Company (Hamburg Germany) used the RodPack composite material technology from NEPTCO company (Pawtucket, RI, US) in producing wind power blades. The materials have been used in Senvion 6.2 M152 blades and will be used in blades designed for onshore and offshore wind-driven generators, as estimated.

The RodPack technology consists of solidified pultrusion bars laid on adhesive-bonded fabrics in place of the standard fiberglass in the wind power blade girders, which quickens the optimizing design of the blades while improving their quality. The technology will be used in Senvion draught fans only and Senvion is now devoting to a joint exploitationof a machine to expand the product capacity of RodPack.

The material property of RodPack is 9% higher than that of high modulus fiberglass and 20% higher than that of standard unidirectional fiberglass, leading to blade design potential with higher yield rate, longer service life or higher wind scales.
